Mainsoft Announces IBM Lotus Quickr, Microsoft SharePoint Integrators for IBM Rational Jazz

Milpitas, Calif. - March 17, 2009 - Mainsoft® Corporation, an advanced level member of IBM PartnerWorld and a leading provider of Java EE-Microsoft® SharePoint® integration software, today announced the first release of Mainsoft Document Collaboration for Rational® Jazz. The software connects IBM Rational Team Concert with enterprise collaboration environments based either on IBM Lotus® Quickr® or Microsoft® SharePoint®. It extends developers' collaboration capabilities with direct, per-project links to document libraries from an Eclipse document view, and it integrates IBM Rational Team Concert with document workflows, improving the transparency of software deliveries as well as automating and enforcing project governance.

Additionally, IBM will license, market, and provide first-line support for Mainsoft Document Collaboration for Rational Jazz products as part of a global licensing and reseller agreement with Mainsoft. In future releases, Mainsoft intends to support other Jazz-based products such as IBM Rational Requirements Composer and IBM Rational Quality Manager.

Eliminating IT Barriers
"Effective software deliveries require software delivery teams to meet ever-changing business requirements," said Yaacov Cohen, CEO of Mainsoft, "and yet the vast majority of businesses use a document collaboration infrastructure that is completely separate from the software delivery process. Mainsoft eliminates this IT barrier, bringing development teams and business stakeholders together using enterprises' established collaboration environments."

BearingPoint GmbH, one of the world's largest providers of management and technology consulting services, is using IBM Rational Team Concert to develop custom applications for public agencies and an automotive manufacturer in Germany. "BearingPoint's development and account teams also use a suite of software products for document management and team collaboration," explained Thorsten Hoffman, Technology Architect for BearingPoint's Line of Business Public Services/Infrastructure Services. "Integrating our suite with Rational Team Concert allows us to see our entire software development process from within our development environment. We're using document services to manage our document libraries and document workflows to work more efficiently with our business teams. The alternative, exchanging countless emails with document attachments, is time-consuming and prone to error."

Mainsoft Document Collaboration for Rational Jazz Features
Built on the open, extensible IBM Jazz platform, Document Collaboration integrates with both Lotus and Microsoft collaboration environments. From the Eclipse client, Rational Team Concert developers can:

  • Quickly navigate team sites and document libraries using filters as well as search, favorites, and back/forward buttons.

  • Create, modify, and publish documents on SharePoint sites or IBM Lotus Quickr places. Developers can use basic library services such as check-in and check-out from the Eclipse document view. SharePoint and IBM Lotus Quickr server collaboration features available in Microsoft desktop applications are also available when launched from Team Concert.

  • Subscribe to document library Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds and receive notifications about document changes.

  • Use presence awareness in the document view to quickly identify and initiate an instant messaging session with the person who created, or most recently modified or checked out a document.

  • Define and enforce project governance as part of IBM Rational Team Concert's process enactment, automating previously time-consuming tasks. Work items containing one or more documents can be resolved only when the related IBM Lotus Quickr or Microsoft SharePoint workflows are completed or when the documents are approved in the document library.

Mainsoft Document Collaboration for Rational Jazz allows business stakeholders to participate in the software delivery process using the collaboration tools they already have. Stakeholders receive alerts to review and approve work items related to software deliveries either within IBM Lotus Notes or Microsoft Outlook. The alerts contain links to the IBM Lotus Quickr or SharePoint documents; the reviews and approvals process is the same as any collaboration task.

"As IBM continues to expand the Jazz platform beyond traditional IT environments, we are looking to our business partners to help us," said Scott Hebner, vice president of marketing for IBM Rational. "By working closely with Mainsoft, we are allowing development teams to participate in enterprise work processes that span the globe - without destabilizing or compromising the security or integrity of business-critical software assets or software delivery processes."
