Mainsoft Extends Microsoft SharePoint Integration Products to Include Lotus Sametime and Lotus Notes 7.x and 6.5.x
Milpitas, Calif. - September 17, 2008 - Mainsoft® Corporation, a leading provider of Microsoft® SharePoint®-Java™ EE interoperability software and an advanced IBM business partner, today announced that it has expanded its SharePoint Integration product suite to include Lotus Sametime® 8.x and 7.5.x as well as Lotus Notes® 7.x and 6.5.x. Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator products combine SharePoint document sharing and collaboration capabilities with IBM presence awareness, instant messaging, email, and on-the-glass workflows. IT users can now work more productively, with easy access to SharePoint documents and collaboration capabilities from within Notes, the Sametime IM client, and WebSphere® Portal.
The Impact of SharePoint on Lotus Customers
"Given the widespread use of Microsoft Office on the desktop, it's not surprising to see SharePoint emerging in almost all organizations, including those that use Sametime, Lotus Notes, and Domino," said Yaacov Cohen, president and CEO of Mainsoft. "Until now, Lotus users that adopt SharePoint get stuck with limited compatibility between their messaging and collaboration platforms, which hinders productivity and makes email content management all but impossible. Mainsoft SharePoint Integrators combine IBM messaging and workflow capabilities with the document sharing and collaboration capabilities of SharePoint. This strategic coexistence can be implemented at a fraction of the cost of migrating to a single vendor strategy, and without disrupting the way Lotus users are accustomed to working."
Champion Solutions Group, a premier technology solutions provider and long-time Lotus Notes/Domino customer, is implementing Microsoft Office SharePoint Server in order to create a portal that provides Web-based document management, team sites and integration with back-end Microsoft SQL-based applications. Champion selected Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator to integrate SharePoint with Lotus Notes and Sametime. Explained Bill Phelps, CTO of the company, "We already have a unified communications infrastructure in place that's fully integrated with our business processes, and we don't see a compelling reason to migrate to a single vendor in order to unify our messaging and collaboration platforms. Mainsoft offers the practical integration path we need to support our end users' preferred platforms while preserving our existing IT investments."
Mainsoft SharePoint Integrators
Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator products and solutions integrate SharePoint document sharing and collaboration capabilities with IBM presence awareness, instant messaging, email, and on-the-glass workflows:
- Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator for Lotus Sametime allows Sametime users to initiate a chat session with the author or most recent editor of a SharePoint document. Users can also drag-and-drop SharePoint documents directly into the Sametime 8.x or 7.5.x instant message window, for fast and easy collaboration.
- Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator for Lotus Notes provides easy access to SharePoint files from a Lotus Notes sidebar. End users can navigate SharePoint document libraries stored on SharePoint sites; drag-and-drop documents between SharePoint and Notes applications, such as mail or calendar appointments, or the Sametime IM client; create new documents; and modify existing documents within a SharePoint document library. Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator for Lotus Notes is available as a sidebar panel in Lotus Notes 8.x or as a standalone application that docks with Lotus Notes 6.5.x or 7.x.
- Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator for WebSphere Portal 6.0 and 6.1 provides single
sign-on, role-based access to SharePoint content from within WebSphere Portal. SharePoint content and Windows SharePoint Services can participate in on-the-glass enterprise mashups that run on WebSphere Portal or Lotus Notes.
Unlike migration solutions, which replicate SharePoint content, Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator products rely on documented SOAP Web services and FrontPage RPC interfaces to access SharePoint contents directly from either the Windows SharePoint Server (WSS) or MOSS. In addition, business workflows can include data and business logic from disparate systems, including SharePoint; Notes and Domino; and Java and .NET applications. IT users gain a more productive work environment as well as insights into business performance that help them make current decisions. With Mainsoft, existing systems can be used within business processes, without the cost and expense of recoding each one on a common platform.
