Mainsoft Releases SQL Reporting Services Federator for WebSphere Portal
Lotusphere, Orlando, Florida - January 21, 2007 Mainsoft® Corporation, the leading cross-platform company, today announced the release of the SQL Reporting Services Federator for WebSphere Portal, which delivers out-of-the-box connectivity to Microsoft's SQL 2005 Reporting Services from IBM WebSphere Portal Server.
Product Features
- The Reporting Services Federator gives corporate end users secure access to the SQL reports repository directly from within the WebSphere Portal environment, without the having to sign into a separate application.
- End users can explore the SQL Reporting Services reports repository, select a report for viewing from a hierarchy of folders, and display the selected report. Users can also change report parameters, navigate through the pages, and export the report as a PDF or an Excel file.
- The Reporting Services repository assumes the same look and feel as the rest of the portal system, and it can be easily integrated into existing applications using WebSphere Portal's inter-portlet communications feature.
- IT developers can easily customize the portlets by modifying the source code, which comes bundled with the application.
"The Reporting Services Federator is part of Mainsoft's strategy to deliver an unprecedented level of integration between .NET components and WebSphere Portal Server," said Yaacov Cohen, President and CEO, Mainsoft. "End users want the convenience of accessing all their custom content and applications, regardless of their underlying platforms. We deliver this convenience to IBM customers. At the same time, the Reporting Services Federator eliminates customers' dependency on Sharepoint, giving IBM customers the opportunity to eliminate costs while preserving their investments in existing .NET applications and developer skills."
Enabling Technology: Visual MainWin for J2EE, Portal Edition
The Reporting Services Federator is built using the Visual MainWin for J2EE toolkit. Mainsoft's Portal Edition enables .NET developers to create JSR 168-compliant portlets using ASP.NET controls, C#, and Visual Basic .NET and run them natively on WebSphere Portal Server. The software cross-compiles .NET source code to Java bytecode, enabling C# and Visual Basic .NET developers to maintain their applications on WebSphere Portal from within the Visual Studio IDE.
