Mainsoft unveils first cross-platform solution for Visual Studio.NET

Visual MainWin for .NET easily takes C++ developers to multiple Unix flavors

Atlanta, GA - June 19, 2001 - Today at Microsoft's TechEd Conference, Mainsoft Corporation, the e-porting company, will dramatically extend its leadership in the cross platform development market by unveiling a preview of Visual MainWin for .NET. This is the world's first application-porting platform to be built around Microsoft's Visual Studio.NET. This innovative solution, developed in close co-operation with Microsoft through the Visual Studio.NET Integration Program (VSIP), extends the Visual Studio.NET development environment to build applications for multiple flavors of Unix. Unlike non high-performance portability alternatives, Visual MainWin for .NET recompiles Windows source code with Unix compilers to create native Unix applications.

"We have customers who are building cross platform applications," said Microsoft's Tom Button, vice president, Developer Tools division. "We appreciate all of the work that Mainsoft has done to enable Visual Studio customers to target this important enterprise scenario."

Mainsoft's latest e-porting product, Visual MainWin for .NET, reduces overall multi-platform deployment costs by up to 90 percent and dramatically cuts time-to-market for Windows-based applications that must be ported to Unix. Mainsoft has worked closely with Microsoft using early versions of Visual Studio.NET, available only to VSIP members, to ensure that Visual MainWin for .NET works seamlessly with the new Visual Studio.NET interface. To address the compelling need for web services, Mainsoft has also added a new generation of XML support to Visual MainWin for .NET, and wrapped all of this in a comprehensive range of professional services to assist customers to rapidly deploy cross-platform applications.

"Our customers have told us that it's important for them to have an evolutionary path to .NET and that XML and Web services are their priority," said Yaacov Cohen, Mainsoft's chief executive officer. "Visual MainWin for .NET enables customers to leverage their existing applications to multiple platforms from within the latest Microsoft development environment."
