Mainsoft unveils patent pending technology that adds platform independence to Microsoft Visual Studio

Visual MainWin enables developers to create applications for five platforms at the same time

San Jose, Calif. - April, 10, 2001 – At the SD West show today, Mainsoft, the e-porting company, announced the general availability of Visual MainWin. For the first time, developers can use the Microsoft Visual Studio development environment to rapidly deploy applications simultaneously on Windows, AIX, Solaris, HP-UX and Linux. For companies facing increased business and competitive pressures in a turbulent economy, Mainsoft's application e-porting platform, Visual MainWin, enables Internet infrastructure and application software developers to expand market reach, saving time and money while maximizing developer resources.

"No single deployment platform dominates today's market; therefore, software vendors are required to develop for multiple platforms," said Yaacov Cohen, president and chief executive officer of Mainsoft. "Additionally, in today's economic landscape, companies are searching for ways to cut costs while still providing the same, or even greater, levels of output. Visual MainWin provides the only cross-platform solution available for Visual Studio developers to concurrently write applications for five platforms at the same time."

ISVs and infrastructure providers such as Microsoft, Computer Associates, Siebel, UUNET, and Wind River have tapped Mainsoft's application porting platform for a unique cross platform experience. Mainsoft's products and services enable companies to simultaneously release applications for multiple platforms and can reduce R&D costs for Unix versions by up to 95%.

"Mainsoft's cross-platform solution has benefited our company by freeing up our developers' time to concentrate on writing new applications, not re-writing code," said Bill Taylor, director of product marketing at Rational. "It's proven value in both saved time and money has allowed Rational to better address the cross-platform development challenge."

Visual MainWin
Visual MainWin is the first implementation of Mainsoft's e-porting initiative. With Visual MainWin, the entire multi-platform development process can be completed from any PC with no direct interaction with a Unix machine. By providing seamless integration with Microsoft Visual Studio 6, specifically Visual C++, Visual MainWin eliminates the need for Unix development expertise.

Pricing and Availability
Visual MainWin includes one developer license, three additional QA licenses to test and debug the resulting applications and one year of Web based technical support. Premium support levels are also available. Pricing is $2,495 per developer per platform. Visual MainWin is available for Solaris, HP-UX, Red Hat Linux and AIX.
