Viewing and Editing Document Properties

Microsoft SharePoint supports the notion of document metadata, also known as properties, columns, or fields. Metadata can be used to organize and filter documents, and help you to locate files on the server.

Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator gives you quick access to all document metadata from the SharePoint sidebar's rich client interface. You can read more about how to work with SharePoint metadata in the sidebar's graphical user interface in the help topic Working with the Properties window.

The document properties are defined by the SharePoint administrator in one of the following locations:

  • The document library
  • The document's content type

Properties can be defined as required, in which case they must be filled in before the document can be checked in to be shared with other users.
