What:
|
Registrations are now open for the "Race to Linux®
2.0," hosted by DevX, a division of Jupitermedia, and sponsored by Mainsoft,
Novell, and IBM.
The 3-series Race to Linux 2.0 challenges Visual
Studio developers to experiment with .NET 2.0-to-Linux porting options. DevX
will announce the target applications at the beginning of each race. More than
100 developers have registered to date.
The first developer to deliver the application
running successfully under SUSE Linux on an IBM System x will win a Nintendo
Wii and games package. Additionally, a Nintendo Wii will be awarded to the
first correct entry that uses Mono and to the first correct entry that uses
Mainsoft Grasshopper, regardless of whether these entries are the first entries
overall.
Step-by-step tutorials, enterprise case studies,
performance studies, and a roundtable discussion with Jeff Smith, Vice
President, Open Source and Linux Middleware at IBM; Miguel de Icaza, Vice
President of Developer Platforms at Novell; and Yaacov Cohen, President and CEO
of Mainsoft regarding the use of cross-platform .NET in the enterprise are
available on the Race to Linux 2.0 portal.

According to a recent survey conducted by The Code
Project, a virtual community of 3.9 million Visual Studio developers, 26
percent of Visual Studio developers use Linux development technologies, and 25
percent use Java. This compares to 31 percent of Visual Studio developers who
reportedly use Visual Basic .NET.
DevX is hosting the Race to Linux 2.0 to encourage
Visual Studio developers to experiment with .NET-to-Linux porting options and
share best practices in taking ASP.NET 2.0 applications to Linux and open
systems.
