Mainsoft Upgrades Visual MainWin for UNIX 64-bit Support

Visual MainWin 5.1.1 delivers enhanced support for 64-bit and 32-bit applications

San Jose, Calif. - October 4, 2006 Mainsoft® Corporation, a leading cross-platform company, announced today the general availability of version 5.1.1 of its flagship product, Visual MainWin® for UNIX® (C++), which enables software vendors to port 64-bit Visual C++ applications to Sun Solaris 8, 9 and 10 on SPARC®, Sun Solaris 10 on AMD64, and AIX 5, in addition to 32-bit platforms.

"No single deployment platform dominates today's marketplace, which is why the vast majority of medium- and large-scale software vendors offer their solution on multiple platforms, including both 64-bit and 32-bit UNIX platforms," said Philippe Cohen, vice president of product development, Mainsoft. "With Visual MainWin 5.1.1, we offer a single code base to support both 32-bit and 64-bit requirements, enabling software vendors to quickly deliver new functionalities and enhancements to customers that require one or both options. Version 5.1.1 also includes support for newer operating systems and compiler versions, cumulative fixes and various enhancements to meet customers' demands."

Porting C++ Applications to UNIX
Mainsoft's Visual MainWin for UNIX (C++) enables many of the world's largest software vendors, including Mentor Graphics, ESRI and Oracle to develop and maintain enterprise-class applications using the productive Microsoft Visual Studio integrated development environment, and deploy applications natively on Microsoft Windows and multiple platforms.

"Mainsoft allows Mentor Graphics the strategic opportunity to take our high-performance graphics solutions, which we developed in C++ using the mature, fully-featured Microsoft environment, to multiple platforms," said Geoff Babb, Manager Engineering Infrastructure, Mentor Graphics. "Single-source code support for Windows and the latest 32- and 64-bit Unix platforms make it even easier to meet our customer's diverse IT requirements."

Visual MainWin for Unix offers enterprise-class performance and scalability, with proven robustness for non-stop operation on 15 Unix platforms, including versions of Sun Solaris 8, 9 and 10 for both SPARC, AMD Opteron and Intel processor-based architectures. Mainsoft's proven, systematic porting methodology ensures projects are completed on time and on budget. Turn-key solutions offered by Mainsoft's consulting services include requirements analysis, detailed project plan, implementation phase and on-site project delivery.

Commitment to C++ Development
According to a recent survey conducted by the Code Project, an online community of more than three million Visual Studio developers, forty seven percent of developers that use the Visual Studio integrated development environment continue to use unmanaged C/C++ code.

"Some Visual Studio development organizations remain committed to C++ to maintain applications developed prior to the advent of the .NET Framework," said Prashant Sridharan, group product manager of the .NET Developer Product Marketing Group at Microsoft Corp. "We're pleased to see Mainsoft offer a robust solution for taking these applications across platforms."
