Mainsoft Announces Support for .NET Applications on WebSphere Everyplace Deployment on a Linux Desktop

Mobile Users Gain Equal Access to Enterprise Applications Written in Linux, Java, and .NET

San Francisco, Calif. - October 3rd, 2006 Mainsoft Corporation, the leading cross-platform company and an advanced IBM business partner, today announced services and support for IBM WebSphere® Everyplace Deployment 6.0, enabling customers to run .NET Web applications natively on WebSphere software running on a Linux desktop. Mobile end users gain easy access to all enterprise applications and data, even when they are offline, regardless of whether the underlying applications were written in C#, Visual Basic® .NET or Java . Users can also store and process field information, and synchronize information with enterprise systems that are based either on Java or the Microsoft® .NET Framework using WebSphere Everyplace. Mainsoft intends to support the version 6.1 release later this year.

"Support for WebSphere Everyplace completes Mainsoft's portfolio of .NET-J2EE interoperability solutions, enabling online and offline access to .NET applications running natively on WebSphere software," said Yaacov Cohen, President and CEO of Mainsoft. "The simplicity of our solution contrasts sharply with other interoperability architectures, which rely on a complex interoperability layer and can be costly to implement and maintain."

Moving .NET Applications to Open Systems
Mainsoft's professional services team uses Visual MainWin for J2EE software to deploy ASP.NET and .NET server applications natively on WebSphere Everyplace Deployment, WebSphere Portal Server, WebSphere Application Server, and other J2EE servers at an average rate of 5,000 lines of code per day. Customers such as Pacific Edge Software report this process is significantly faster than rewriting their applications from scratch.

"Rewriting Mariner, our flagship IT governance software, in Java was technically feasible. Without Visual MainWin, it would have taken nearly ten man-years of development effort to rewrite more than 800,000 lines of C# code, in addition to hiring a new team of Java developers and integrating them into the existing development organization," said John Scumniotales, vice president of products for Pacific Edge Software. "The Mainsoft engineers worked almost as an extension of my own development team and completed the project in two and a half months. Mainsoft engineers also tuned the application to deliver roughly equivalent performance on .NET and Linux."

"Working with Mainsoft and leading strategic integrators, IBM customers can protect existing investments and jump-start their desktop transformation using Linux, Java, and .NET enterprise applications," said Antony Satyadas, Chief Competitive Marketing Officer, IBM Lotus Software. "ISVs and solution providers can now extend their .NET applications to run on Linux, and leverage open standards and server managed client capabilities. This is yet another dimension of the Web 2.0 wave, driving innovation in a no-one-size-fits-all-environment."
