Mainsoft's Visual MainWin Supports Sun Solaris 10 OS
Offering enables ISVs to quickly port Windows applications to x64 architecture
SAN JOSE and SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Feb. 22, 2005 -
Mainsoft®
, the cross-platform development company, today announced an agreement with Sun
Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) that will enable independent software vendors
(ISVs) to quickly port C++ applications to the Solaris 10 Operating System
(OS). Mainsoft will certify its Visual MainWin product suite to the Solaris 10
OS for the x64 architecture (32-bit and 64-bit). The certified tools will
enable industry-leading ISVs to offer enterprise-class applications that take
advantage of the security, manageability and performance of Solaris 10.
"Our ISV customers are telling us they want fast, cost-effective tools to
deliver their enterprise-class products on Solaris 10 for the x64 platform,"
said Yaacov Cohen, president and CEO, Mainsoft Corporation. "Extending our
alliance with Sun is a milestone in our commitment to enable ISVs to develop
enterprise-class applications once, and deploy them natively on the UNIX and
Linux platform of choice."
The Visual MainWin product suite enables C++ developers to write
enterprise-class applications in the productive Visual Studio®
development environment, and deploy them natively on multiple UNIX®
and Linux platforms. Visual MainWin v. 5 for UNIX and Linux offers
enterprise-class performance and scalability, with proven robustness for
non-stop operation. It supports 15 Linux and UNIX platforms, including versions
of Sun Solaris 8, 9 and 10 for both SPARC®
, AMD Opteron and Intel processor-based architectures.
"Mainsoft's robust Visual MainWin porting platform plays a critical role in
speeding independent software vendor's time-to-market while controlling costs,"
said Stephen Borcich, vice president, Partner and Industry Marketing, Sun
Microsystems. "Working with Mainsoft is an integral element to our tools
partner strategy, to help application providers bring a broader range of
premier apps for Solaris 10 on SPARC, x86 and x64 platforms to market as
quickly as possible."
"With the addition of Solaris 10, Mainsoft's Visual MainWin continues to be a
key enabler for leading solutions providers such as Siebel Systems to deliver
enterprise-class software products across a number of disparate platforms,"
said Skip Bacon, Vice President, Technology, Siebel Systems. "We rely on
Mainsoft to meet Siebel's demanding deployment schedules while significantly
lowering our total cost of ownership."
Siebel intends to use Visual MainWin to provide Siebel eBusiness Applications
on Solaris 10 in an upcoming release.
Visual MainWin for J2EE, released in February 2004, enables Visual Basic.NET and
C# developers to write ASP.NET Web applications and Web services using Visual
Studio .NET and deploy them natively on the J2EE platform, including Solaris
10, Weblogic and Websphere.
