Visual MainWin v 1.5 for J2EE delivers robust porting capabilities,
Infragistics NetAdvantage Toolset on J2EE
Application Development Summit, Phoenix, AZ - Sept
27, 2004 - Mainsoft® Corporation, the cross-platform
development company today announced the release of Visual MainWin® v
1.5 for the J2EE™ platform. Now available, Version 1.5 supports more
robust porting capabilities, including support for single-source code
development across the .NET and J2EE platforms. Visual MainWin also rehosts
ASP.NET elements from Infragistics™ NetAdvantage™
2004 presentation layer development toolset on the J2EE platform, offering .NET
developers the unprecedented ability to quickly develop commercial-quality J2EE
Web applications and Web services using NetAdvantage' easy-to-use designers and
style presets.
"Enhancements to Visual MainWin for J2EE are music to my ears," said Marius
Roets, Integration Architect, Woolworths, S.A. "Already, Woolworths has saved
85% in development costs using our Microsoft development skills and Visual
MainWin to create a business-critical, J2EE data monitoring and alerting
system. Visual MainWin v 1.5 will make our .NET development team even more
productive."
New to version 1.5
"Based on our ongoing dialogue with customers, Mainsoft identified the need to
make it even easier for enterprises to maximize their investments in existing
.NET code and skills," said Yaacov Cohen, president and CEO of Mainsoft
Corporation. With Visual MainWin, customers can port their existing .NET
applications to J2EE and use their .NET developers to quickly create J2EE
applications with a rich user-interface from scratch."
Visual MainWin v. 1.5 introduces more robust porting capabilities, including
support for single-source code development for the .NET and J2EE platforms and
a Visual Studio-integrated Project Conversion Tool, which guides enterprises
and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) in quickly porting existing .NET code
to the J2EE platform. Visual MainWin also rehosts Infragistics' NetAdvantage
ASP.NET elements to enable .NET developers to rapidly create a rich,
commercial-quality user interface on J2EE applications.
"When time-to-market is critical, there simply is no better alternative to
Mainsoft's Visual MainWin to quickly port .NET applications to the J2EE
platform," said Yoav Harel, CEO of Infogate Online. This summer, the company
used Visual MainWin to port 500,000 lines of C# code from .NET to the J2EE
platform in three months.
Visual MainWin: Solving the .NET/J2EE divide
According to the Gartner Group, both .NET and Java will remain an important
part of IT strategy for the next several years.
"Whether it's by choice or consequence, most medium- to large-scale IT
enterprises tend to have both .NET and Java, and finding a strategy to support
both platforms cost effectively is becoming an increasingly important IT
imperative," said Mark Driver, vice president and research director, The
Gartner Group.
Mainsoft developed Visual MainWin for J2EE to address customer concerns about
the .NET/J2EE platform divide. Visual MainWin extends the high productivity of
Microsoft's Visual Studio .NET®
development environment to the J2EE platform, enabling enterprises with C# and
Visual Basic.NET®
developers to rapidly develop the presentation layer of a J2EE enterprise
application using ASP.NET. .NET developers can easily incorporate existing J2EE
components and debug across the C#, VB.NET and Java languages. The output is
pure Java bytecode, which can be easily deployed on standards-compliant J2EE
application servers such as JBoss®,
WebSphere®, Tomcat®
or WebLogic®.
