Mainsoft resolves .NET/J2EE platform divide with Visual Mainwin for the J2EE
platform
Siebel Systems and Woolworths S.A. among early adopters
TECH·ED 2004 Europe - Amsterdam, June 29, 2004 -
Mainsoft®
Corporation (www.mainsoft.com), the cross-platform development company and
long-time Visual Studio Industry Partner (VSIP), today launched its newest
cross-platform development solution in Europe. Visual MainWin®
resolves the .NET/J2EE platform divide with the integration of the C# and Visual Basic .NET®
languages into the J2EETM
platform, enhancing productivity and application development flexibility.
Visual MainWin enables Visual Basic .NET and C# developers to rapidly create
ASP.NET applications for the J2EE platform. The solution accelerates J2EE
development significantly by enabling .NET and Java teams to work together for
the first time, co-developing J2EE Web applications and Web Services. Early
adopters include Siebel Systems, Woolworths S.A. and Synergie Logistics, among
others.
Woolworths recently chose Mainsoft's Visual MainWin to develop applications for
a Sybase enterprise application server.
"Mainsoft offers Woolworths the flexibility to deploy our Web applications and
Web Services on J2EE, without having to retrain our Visual Studio developers or
outsource our J2EE development," said, Marius Roets, System Manager,
Integration Solutions / Integration Architect, Woolworths S.A.
The Business Need
Through 2010, Gartner estimates that 95 percent of medium- to large-scale
enterprises will use both Microsoft and Java technologies as integral elements
of their software strategies, and most mid-size enterprises will struggle to
support both Microsoft and J2EE platforms. Gartner also projects that over the
next few years, a growing number of development projects will include elements
of both .NET and Java technologies.
"Supporting the co-existence of J2EE and .NET applications will become the
routine reality for most European organisations," said Massimo Pezzini vice
president & distinguished analyst Gartner Research EMEA. "Users are looking
for platforms enabling them to integrate .NET and J2EE platforms throughout
the entire application life cycle in a seamless and cost-effective way."
The Technology Solution
Visual MainWin introduces a patent-pending technology that compiles the
Microsoft®
Intermediate Language (MSIL) source code directly into standard Java bytecode.
For the first time, enterprises can use their Visual Basic .NET and C#
developers who are not familiar with J2EE application design to rapidly develop Web applications and Web services for the J2EE platform.
Visual MainWin preserves the complete Visual Studio developer experience,
allowing developers to develop, run, debug and deploy their code directly
within the Visual Studio system. Because the output is fully compliant with the
J2EE platform standards, Visual MainWin applications can be deployed and
managed as any standard J2EE application.
Enterprises with both .NET and Java developers can accelerate the development
of enterprise-class applications and Web services significantly by enabling
their .NET and Java teams to co-develop multi-tiered applications. Visual Basic
.NET and C# developers rapidly create the ASP.NET front-end of an application
using Visual Studio .NET, while Java developers use any standard J2EE
development tool to provide the back-end business logic as J2EE components.
From Visual Studio, the .NET developers can consume the J2EE components such as
EJBs and debug the entire application across C#, Visual Basic .NET and Java
languages, enabling a tight collaboration between the .NET and Java teams.
Because both development teams continue to use their preferred development
tools, there is no need to retrain developers. The entire application is
deployed on a J2EE application server such as IBM WebSphere, BEA Weblogic or
JBoss.
Bridging the Technology Gap
For more than a decade, Mainsoft has extended the productivity of the Visual
Studio environment to multiple platforms, helping many of the world's largest
independent software vendors resolve their most pressing cross platform
development issues. Responding to growing customer concerns about J2EE
development, Mainsoft identified the opportunity to extend the productivity of
Visual Studio to the J2EE platform. Since 2001, the company has drawn upon its
years of experience working with Microsoft developers, its deep expertise in
bridging between the Windows®
and UNIX®
operating systems, its memberships in the European Computer Manufacturing
Association (ECMA) and the MONO open-source project to create a unique
development and interoperability solution.
"Visual MainWin resolves the .NET/J2EE divide by introducing Microsoft's .NET
languages such as C# and Visual Basic .NET to the J2EE platform," said Yaacov
Cohen, president and CEO of Mainsoft Corporation. "By opening the J2EE platform
to C# and Visual Basic .NET developers, we offer medium- and large-scale
enterprise IT departments tangible relief from their acute .NET/J2EE
challenges."
About Mainsoft Corporation
Founded in 1993, Mainsoft Corporation, the cross-platform development company,
enables businesses to develop mission-critical applications with Visual Studio
software and deploy them natively on J2EE, UNIX®
and Linux®
platforms, dramatically reducing development costs and time-to-market. The
company is a first-mover in cross-platform development. Its world-class
research and development team has created patented cross-platform products that
solve critical problems facing independent software vendors (ISVs) and IT
organizations. Many of the world's largest ISVs including Siebel, Computer
Associates and IBM Rational, use Mainsoft's products to extend the productivity
of Microsoft Visual Studio, deploying more than $1 billion worth of software
annually on multiple operating systems. For more information, visit
