Mainsoft
Enables Alcatel to Simultaneously Deliver Network Management
Solution on Windows/NT and Unix Using MainWin
Cross-platform
Development Solution Helps Alcatel Build, Test and Deliver
Full Suite of Products
Santa
Clara, CA - September 21, 1999 - Mainsoft Corporation, the leader in
Windows-to-Unix cross-platform solutions for the enterprise, today
announced that Alcatel's Internetworking division (NYSE: ALA), has
re-hosted its X-Vision Enterprise product onto the Unix platform
with the porting capabilities of Mainsoft's MainWin.
Alcatel's X-Vision Enterprise is an innovative network
management suite that is designed to perform switch configuration,
establish LAN segmentation policies, monitor key network
statistics and create ATM/WAN services and connections for Alcatel
switches.
MainWin, Mainsoft's flagship cross-platform development solution,
accelerated the delivery of X-Vision product by ensuring the
seamless port of Windows/NT code to the Unix environment.
"In the
network management industry, we're faced with the challenge of
delivering our products for both Unix and Windows/NT platforms in
a short period of time," said Dave Dalton, manager of Network
Management Systems for Alcatel Internetworking Division.
"By integrating MainWin, we were able to cut our
development team from ten to two engineers and ship X-Vision
Enterprise for Unix and Windows/NT on the same day with full
functionality, without losing any development time."
Global telecommunications companies and the U.S. military use Alcatel's
enterprise data networking solutions, including X-Vision
Enterprise, to manage large and complex voice and data networks.
X-Vision Enterprise is a suite of products that allows
network administrators to configure, control, monitor and manage
an entire network locally or remotely with an easy-to-use
graphical user interface (GUI).
With data networks in the state of constant change,
companies need network management solutions on the Windows/NT and
Unix platforms.
Mainsoft
recently shipped its leading product, MainWin version 3.3.
MainWin allows developers to recompile Windows/NT source
code and run it on Unix as a native Unix program with full Windows
functionality. MainWin's cross-platform porting technology provides
developers with the tools needed to port effectively and
efficiently Windows applications to the Unix platform.
"We're
pleased that Alcatel has selected MainWin as its technology
solution to rehost Windows applications on the Unix platform,"
said Ivor Share, CEO and president of Mainsoft Corporation.
"Alcatel customers depend on the Unix platform and need
network management technologies that are flexible, reliable and
scaleable. Our
products ensure that Alcatel can deliver products like X-Vision to
their customers without depleting resources and budget.
"During
our proof of concept with MainWin, we compiled our 1.5 million
lines of source code into the Mainsoft porting solution and within
a week had the code compiled and linked," added Dalton.
"MainWin lets us simultaneously build, test and release
our products on both platforms and decreases our turn around time
to our customers. Today, with the help of MainWin, we deliver our
X-Vision Enterprise for HPUX, Solaris and AIX versions on one CD."
