SharePoint calendars on mobile devices
This article applies to harmon.ie for SharePoint, Lotus Edition, only.
harmon.ie extends Lotus Notes® calendar federation feature to include SharePoint Calendars. Now, Lotus Notes users can have the same calendar management capabilities for SharePoint calendars as they have for their personal Lotus Calendar; they can add, edit, and delete SharePoint events directly from their Lotus Notes Calendar application, and create an overlay view to include both Lotus and SharePoint calendars. The overlay view is especially important when managing multiple SharePoint and Domino calendars; it gives you the ability to see a unified view of events both in your calendar application as well as in the ‘Day-at-a-glance’ sidebar to ensure that you are always up-to-date!
In addition to the calendar overlay and management capabilities, harmon.ie also takes advantage of the Make this calendar available when offline and on a mobile device feature. When registering a SharePoint calendar in your Lotus Notes calendar application, simply select the checkbox to take the SharePoint calendar to your mobile device.
Pre-requisites
The Make this calendar available when offline and on a mobile device feature is part of the Lotus Calendar federation framework available in Lotus Notes/Domino/LotusTraveler 8.5.1.
To extend the SharePoint events to your mobile device, you must be able to extend your primary Lotus Notes calendar to a mobile device, either via Lotus Traveler Server or Blackberry Enterprise Server components.
Once you have your mobile device connected to your personal Lotus calendar, the SharePoint calendars can be included on your device as well.
Known issues and limitations
- Mobile calendar updates
- You must reopen the Lotus Calendar application to update the modified federated calendar entries on the mobile device. Similarly, you must refresh the Day-at-a-glance side panel to see the modified federated calendar updates.
- Appearance
- As there is no color coding available on mobile devices, you are unable to differentiate federated calendar entries.
- Calendar management
- Federated events are all marked as Busy which may appear in calendar view as calendar conflicts.
- If you want to delete a Lotus Calendar from your desktop AND mobile device, you must keep the calendar in an active view (checked), then delete it from your desktop which will then remove it from your mobile device. If you hide the calendar view (uncheck the calendar), and then delete it, the calendar is not removed from the mobile device. This is a known issue with federated calendars.
- Traveler supports federated calendar events as read-only. Mobile device does not distinguish between personal and federated calendar events therefore, they all appear as editable on your mobile. Changes made to federated calendar events made on mobile devices are overwritten on subsequent Lotus Traveler updates.
