MAINSOFT ANNOUNCES SOCIAL CONNECTOR FOR IBM RATIONAL TEAM CONCERT
Company delivers a community preview of the integration with IBM Lotus Connections
ORLANDO, FL – June 7th, 2010 - IBM development partner, Mainsoft® Corporation, today announced a community preview of Social Connector for IBM Rational Team Concert. Developed in collaboration with IBM Rational®, the social connector brings enterprise social networks to the software delivery process. Developers using IBM® Rational® Team Concert™ now have direct access to IBM Lotus® Connections blogs, wikis, communities, activities, profiles and more, directly from within the development environment. In the future, the Social Connector will also support additional collaboration platforms, such as Microsoft® Office® SharePoint® Server. Developers without access to a Lotus Connections server will be able to use IBM developerWorks® instead. This Social Connector is also being tested with other IBM Rational Jazz-based products so that you can leverage your social network while staying in your primary work environment.
According to Yaacov Cohen, CEO of Mainsoft, "Software developers and project leaders have always been early adopters of new technology and they are indeed the first ones embracing enterprise social networks. Mainsoft's Social Connector for Rational Team Concert makes the development process more social, adding the ability to build a community around a development project."
"By working closely with Mainsoft, IBM Rational and IBM Lotus are making it easy for developers to exchange experiences, thoughts, and ideas with technical and business experts throughout the enterprise," said Michael Loria, vice president, IBM Rational Business Development. "This boosts collaboration and agility in the software delivery process."
From the Rational Team Concert Web user interface, the Social Connector enables developers to do the following:
-
Build a Community around a project - Grow a social network around a software project to bring developers up to speed faster, gather feedback from users, and collaborate with business stakeholders. When contributors join a Rational Team Concert project, they automatically become members of the project's community.
-
Find people and knowledge in your organization based on experience, skills or responsibilities. Hovering above a user's name in the Rational Team Concert web interface produces a rich tooltip with the user's business card, showing aggregated profile information from both Rational Team Concert and Connections repositories. From here, people can be invited to expand the network. The knowledge shared within the community is searchable directly from a viewlet on the Rational Team Concert project dashboard. Community members can also search product blogs, user requirements wikis and shared bookmarks.
-
Share ideas using status updates, blogs and discussions forums – A single click updates the user status message (micro-blog), posts a new blog entry or publishes Rational Team Concert work items as Lotus Connections Activities. These provide better visibility and coordination with business stakeholders.
-
Stay up to date – Having the social viewlet on the Rational Team Concert Project Dashboard is the ideal way to stay-up-to-date with what is going on in and around a project. The viewlet displays the latest updates and activities for the people in the network. It also provides easy access to the project community feed.

Identify and connect with IT and business stakeholders from the Team Concert search menu. Access full social profiles.

Share ideas using status updates, blogs and discussions forums from within Rational Team Concert.
