Today at Lotusphere, Mainsoft announced a preview of their Mainsoft SharePoint Integrator for Lotus Notes version 2.5. This latest version supports SharePoint 2010. The ability to integrate SharePoint and Lotus Notes has been in high demand with Mainsoft seeing a 420% increase in new Lotus customers.

"Being able to collaborate with the business experts is very important," said IBM Rational's Dave Johnson, who is an expert in the IBM Rational Jazz platform on which Team Concert is based, and who worked with Mainsoft on the integration. This integration, he said, allows the development team to reach out to the broader community that may not be using Team Concert. "With agile you need constant interaction with the business folks, and sometimes it's hard to find experts or get their time. Social software can help you find experts in different areas."

Mainsoft Tuesday added support for Notes 8.5 to its software that integrates the collaboration platform with Microsoft's increasingly popular SharePoint Server. In addition, SharePoint Integrator for Lotus Notes 2.0, includes a number of features for cross-platform and SharePoint calendar integration, managing document storage and integration with hosted SharePoint Online.

The problem Mainsoft targets is that even the most techie developers don't work in a vacuum. They must collaborate on documents written by people who aren't developers and view these documents in the context of their own project, said Thorsten Hoffman, technology architect for BearingPoint GmbH in Frankfurt, Germany. BearingPoint programmers can use SharePoint to store their documents and route them through the approval process. For the nonprogrammers on the project, SharePoint is a familiar and easy-to-use tool.
